Light Controller

Lightning Controller V1.0

LED Driver Module for Scale Models

1. Overview

Compact LED controller for scale model lighting (spaceships, fighters, custom builds). Provides realistic flicker, brightness, and attack-mode effects. Fits directly inside models or can be mounted in a base.

2. Features

  • Two controller versions: Idle/Attack and Light/Bright

  • Plug-and-play with digital or standard LEDs

  • Multiple effect channels:

    • Thrusters: NeoPixel-class digital LEDs (flicker effects)

    • Cockpit / Aux: Steady ON LEDs

    • Blink Channel: Fixed 50/50 blink

  • Power input: 5 V (USB) or 6–16 V DC (X5 connector)

  • Built-in protection: reverse-polarity, over-current, thermal

  • Small PCB size for hidden integration

3. Hardware Specifications

ParameterValue
MicrocontrollerATtiny85, 8 KB flash, 512 B SRAM, 512 B EEPROM
Available Program Space~5.25 KB (bootloader uses ~2.75 KB)
Power Input5 V (USB) or 6–16 V DC via X5
Regulator Output5 V / 150 mA
I/O Pins5 GPIO (LED control, sensors, jumpers)
IndicatorsGreen Power LED, Red Pin #1 LED
Board SizeIdle/Attack: 38 × 19 mm / Light/Bright: 55 × 19 mm
ControlsReset button, jumpers (Idle/Attack), potentiometers (Light/Bright)

4. Supported LEDs

  • Thrusters (digital): WS2812/APA106 NeoPixel-class, 5 mm or 8 mm through-hole
  • Thrusters (analog): regular LED with resistor can be connected to the digital output
  • Cockpit / Aux (steady): Any standard LED, resistor required
  • Blink Channel: Any standard LED, fixed 50/50 duty cycle

5. Operating Modes

Idle/Attack Version

  • Idle (wings closed): Red flicker, low/medium brightness

  • Attack (wings open): Magenta flicker, high intensity

  • Switching: Controlled by Hall sensor (magnet hidden in wing linkage)

  • Override Jumpers:

    • IDLE jumper → always red

    • ATTACK jumper → always magenta

    • No jumper → auto via Hall sensor if connected

Light/Bright Version

  • No Hall sensor

  • R1 Potentiometer: Selects 1 of 8 preset thruster colors

  • R2 Potentiometer: Adjusts brightness + flicker strength

6. Wiring & Integration

Connectors

  • Digital LED output (NeoPixels, thrusters)

  • Blink LED output (fixed 50/50 blink)

  • Steady LED outputs (cockpit, aux)

  • Power: Micro-USB (5 V) or X5 header (6–16 V)

➡ Suggestion: diagram showing Blink vs Steady outputs side-by-side for clarity.

Model Integration

  • Designed to fit 1:18, 1:24, 1:29 models directly

  • For smaller/larger models: mount in display base

7. Key Benefits

  • Small footprint for hidden installs

  • Realistic thruster effects (idle/attack or adjustable color/brightness)

  • Simple plug-and-play wiring

  • LED/electronics protection built in
